All right everybody - listen up!
I'm located in Denmark - collected and drove Volvo always and have 10 of them today.
Some time ago I decided to build up a little business with my huge hobby as a enormous "goodwill" - so in not so long, you'll hopefully be able to surf by one of the most dedicated sites to the classic Volvo's.
The main core of the site and business is originality - in data, specifications and parts and so on.
I can only give you a small idea at the moment - for instance: When you look into the spareparts catalog, for body-parts - there will be photos of all items availeble - and on top splitviews (?) from spareparts catalogs - and tastefully photo's from the Torslunda factory and so on..
I have always loved pictures of a classic Volvo in od places - and take a look at "Damian"'s profile-photo - a 122S in Colerado Wauu!..
It just then came to me:
Why not set up a little competition? -and here goes:
- Picture must only show car and surroundings - No people and preferable not to much "noise"
- Picture must be in such qaulity, that I can use them on my site, (600x800-like, in + 72 resolution)
- I will state name and owner of the car if used on my site, and I must be allowed to use the picture on my site freely. (I will NOT retouche anything stupid or missuse)
- "Classic Volvo" is a 444/544, 120/130/220, 140/160 or P1800 in reasonable original condition (at least from the outside) -so please no half-finnished pick-up conversions - but if you have an 122S with custompaint -flames all over and chromed wheels - please then make sure the surroundings the photo was shot in, match!
Email freely to me - ALL photos with included name/adress and meet my ideas from above, will recieve a little gift in return - I'll setup the photos for a votation and the winner will recieve a giftcertificate to my webshop worth free shipment worldwide for 3 orders!
Hope this wasn't to long - and hope it sounds like a fun thing to participate in!
- Drive your lovely old brick to the LA-desert - shoot a photo with a nuclearbomb-test in background
- drive it to the foot of Mount Everest, shoot!
- park it next to the landed shuttle, Florida
Use the best of your imagination - go for that photo that wins!
Thank you all in advance - I'll keep you updated!

Good luck with your new site! I am looking forward to the results of this competition!
You may find some interesting facts from the classic road tests I have posted on my site:

There are also many advertisements from 1969-1974. All English language material. I recently acquired my father's large collection of magazines from 1968 to 2000.

My Danish is a little rusty, but nothing volvo jumped out at me at the site where the "competition" is. Did you have any luck?

Don't know if this was for me..
But yes, the site where I'm setting up the pictures I recieve is in danish - otherwise there is only some few things left there since I'm moving all the data's etc in to my new site, which is not open to public yet. But please have patience, it will!

I downloaded the turbo amazon movie from your website, very sweet! Custom intake, I've never heard of the "INNOVATE" products. It would be nice to read some specs and performance numbers on that set up. I'm sure if I could read and understand Swedish that would help....

Andy,
Yeah that video is pretty wild. I know they used Autronics for the engine management (which is fairly popular).. but that's about it. I find the information "void" both challenging and incredibly frustrating. That and I keep getting burned.. not trying to be bitter.. but on Ebay I bid and won a 71-72 rallye grille middle section.. sent the dude the substantial sum of money and I haven't heard BEEP from him since. I'm about 2 days away from reporting FRAUD. (it's been over a month since I've heard from him).
I should have saved my money and bid on some of this ULTRA rare volvo competition service literature thats popping up lately... If I won any of that kind of item I would scan them and put them on my website.. information want's to be free.
As for the pictures of body panels.. it's been over a YEAR since I have wanted to see a picture of parts numbers 615XXX (eg. 615276 MUDGUARD REPAIR PA 46.64 USD on www.gcp.se) and no one not even retailers I have questioned can, or is willing to supply pictures of these repair sections.
Then there are the disapearing steel fender sources..
It's not all bad though.. I have my own garage now (albeit a small single car garage) and I have 2 chassis.. so once I get a head of my mortgage payments enough I will eventually have a mint chassis.
So, while sometimes I wish I stayed a Mopar guy, I still love my vintage Volvos.

Yeah... I feel your pain. Really. I was "lucky" enough to find a 142 that spent it's life under the 40th parallel, although the interior was toast. Even with that the car was surprising rusty. The rockers filled with leaves from years under trees and were eaten from inside out. The good side is I've learned to use POR 15, fiberglass and skim coats of body filler. I used to be a purist with the idea of "only welding in new metal" but practicality won out. But I'm fortunate the floor and chassis is very solid. I even got the front and rear glass out myself for more rust repair. Oh yeah and every peice of gakset channel is rusted away. Trunk, hood, doors. I haven't even entertained the idea of finding any of that stuff on earth. I guess I'll have to get really creative.
I found a 242 parts car for seats, carpet, headliner and rear interior panels, and some door panels on ebay, it's going to be quite the hodge podge 142. I think anyone in North America who had the interest and resources to make vintage body panels would get rich. Too bad that's not me or you. I've perused Eastwood catalogs seeing myself building a hood or fender for a vintage volvo on an English Wheel. Or any other body panel. That would take alot of skill and a decent shop. But maybe one day. Sorry about your misfortune on Ebay. I haven't gotten burned so far. I think you will look back on your efforts fondly. Just hang in there.

You can use the 242 doors as well, even if they don't need replacing it gets rid of those side vents which in most cases havent been functional in 20 years :) I've had leaves in my inner rocker panels as well... I figured from them rusting out at some point near the quarter panels and then getting patched... at any rate they got in there.
Interior bits are hard... I've got an extra rear seat, but the upholstry is pretty bad and the springs are rusty (all of my rear seats have rusty springs from the inner rear wheel fenders rusting out... or so I assume).
It's not that replacement body panels arn't being made.. there are plenty.. a lot of them are reasonably priced as well.. it's just I can't find pictures to corespond with a lot of the part numbers (slightly frustrating when you have to order it from over seas... it's not like ordering a wack of stuff from car quest and then deciding you only needed half of it). You can even buy NEW front clips and steel fenders (although you will have to PAY eg $300 bucks US plus shipping from sweeden for the new front clip).
The reason why I am being so picky about the body of my car is partly because I'm a perfectionist, but also here in Ontario 142s are ultra rare. There are probably only 10 or so in the province that are in good condition. So just driving it and then transfering parts over to another chassis isn't as much of an option as it would be say in Portland Oregon where it sounds like there are fields of them.
At any rate to make a long story short. The problem is not parts availability, it's a lack of information.. and most people who import parts from sweden (or europe) keep that information to themselves.. a lot of the stuff being sold at vpd is from european suppliers (ie the progressive rate springs, poly bushes, etc). Check out www.kgtrimning.com, but most of the information is in swedish.

I'll check it out, as well you might find the site www.gatorsupercharagers.net of interest, it's not volvo specific but I'm sure you will see the possibilities right away. And as far as old Mopars go, a decent two door Dart or Valiant would suit me. With a supercharged slant six and OD manual of course! When I've examined old Pontiacs, Mopars and the like the quality of vitage volvos is pretty impressive. Not that those American cars were bad. Just that volvo took quality construction to a level unseen anywhere else. Por 15 may work well on rusty springs but you would have to do it as part of a complete seat rebuild I'm sure.I don't think it would let go like typical paint after time. Especially since it would be in complete darkness.( The stuff is UV sensitive). Yeah it sounds like those guys across the pond are keeping that pertinant information to themselves, so Vintage body panel middle men won't start springing up in North America. I think I could do that. What a gravy train that would be. And fun and interesting too. Have you ever order from Scandcar in the Netherlands?

I've followed your thread.. I know exactly what you mean and I have always hated that people (also here in Denmark!!) seems to keep information to them selves as if it was something that made them "bigger".
I really hope you will find my site (in future) fullfilling in that perspective! The dream is that the site will contain everything availble such as manuals, data and so on. Actually, from a business-point of view, that is also why I think that I'll be able to make a helthy little business.
I have driven and owned vintage Volvo's for more than 10 years and all the knowledge I have today has been "expensive" to gain.
But what is most important? -that I have a bunch of knowledge and 3-4 nice looking vintage Volvo's? or that I contributed to make it possible to meet even several nice looking vintage Volvo's on my drive down to my business?
My philosofy has also always been, what is a rare, had to find, nice looking part worth when lying on a shelf somewhere??

Soren:
Well hopefully you get your store opened soon :)
I didn't mean to imply that people are keeping much info to themselves.. (it would be really nice to see r-sport/volvo competition service literature on the web though). Most of the stuff that has a large market in north america has info and supplies... There arn't a lot of people in north america restoring 140 series cars (at least from what I know of).
Andy:
I love old darts/valiants/baracudas.. my favourite 60's mopar would be a 62 2 door post plymouth savoy with a wedge V8 preferably manual but a push button wouldn't make me cry ;) Otherwise i'd make due with an early mitsu mopar like this colt http://www.classicsportscars.com/2V017396.htm (droooool) Those are pretty damn rare these days too.

Sounds a little like what IPD does but they don't sell body panels. Hopefully more cottage industries will spring up supplying the hard to find replacement parts for the classic volvos. Anyway you have my interest.

Thanks,
Anyway - I've heard a hundred times here on brickboard - but haven't really dared to ask -but here goes: Who IS IPD? - Website?
Remember I live in Denmark, right next to Sweden..

IPD is the biggest supplier of OEM and aftermarket Volvo parts in North America (and possibly the world). They also market a line of suspension products for heavy vehicles, and recently have worked their way into the Subaru market as well.

Thank you, Phil
I'll take a look at the site.
Edit:
Have surfed a little in the area "Vintage Volvo" -And know I understand a little better why I see high bids on ebay for taillight lenses and so. Do you really not have more to choose from?

Soren, what you see there is a lot more than we had available a few years ago for the older cars.

I understand - and thats really why I hope a site like the one I'm building come in handy for a lot of you.. Really, honestly meant! -And this NOT meant as a negliable of IPD - but more of a combine of the "old world" we love to drive and the "new world" we use as means to be able to drive on!
(Hope I make myself understandable)
I'm sure we all can agree that the world indeed has become a little tiny place after the birth and continuing development of the Internet.
What on earth did people do before Eddison???? :-)

I think most people before Edison lived and died twenty miles from where they were born. Your website will get alot of attention, and could help alot of us frustrated ebayers.
