Fuel Pump Relays 200 1983

Rover, my rusty/trusty 83 245 has two fuel pump relays mounted on the passenger side floor... and every now and then they don't like to work. I keep a screw driver in the car to give them a good WACK when needed, but obviously would like to replace them! Finding them hasn't been hard, IPD and my Volvo dealer carry them, but I think the cost is absurd. So here come my questions... Why does my car have two relays, and can I replace ONE of them with a larger ceramic relay out of an 85? Thanks for the advise!

there is a big difference between the 85 and your car. when you replace the relays, check the connectors they plug into, they tend to melt from too high an amperage draw and the wires slip out. good luck, chuck.

Hello,

FCP Groton has both relays for under $25 shipped.

If you don't want to fix the relays that is a fair price for new.

And there is only 1 Fuel Relay (the one on the right, I think). It also powers the Injectors and Idle Control Valve,

The other one is the MAIN (Fuel Injection System) Relay, powering the AMM and ICU.

In my experience, they can't be "fixed" like the LH 2.2/2.4 Fuel Relay. Nor replaced by it , unless the wiring was changed to a 6-pin harness plug (I just went out on a limb there.)
