Thick white wire going to ignition computer? 200 1983

There is a thick white wire that connects to the under hood ignition computer, seperate from the main harness. It appears to have an extra layer of coax style shielding on it. Mine is heat damaged and I will have to splice it. Can anyone tell me what that wire is used for, and why the extensive shielding on it?

At least one of our 240's has a white tube vacuum line. Has a length of rubber on the manifold end, white plastic tube running under the alternator, then has a short black rubber vacuum hose connector to the computer. Is that what you're seeing?

nope, its a wire, with a separate layer of wire around the insulation and another layer of insulation on top - coax style. It connects to another plug from the main harness. the vacuum line plugs in the opposite side of the computer.
