Hey all-

Got a simple question for you.
Am (working on) convincing shewhomustbeobeyed that tinting the windows on our 245 is a good idea. Has anyone out there noticed much of a difference in temperature before/after?

I put the best film I could find on my other car--a Mustang--about 6 years ago. The brand is Formula One.

The film looks like the day I bought it, the interior of the car(1992 model) still looks like new due to the UV protection provided by the film, and yes the temperature, heat and glare reduction are all tangible benefits.

When I get into another car (e.g., the "new" 87 244, the sun seems really harsh and terrible compared to the car with the Formula One.

It's the way to go.

No one has mentioned visibility. Particularly on overcast days or at night. Do you just use your side mirrors and cross your fingers? Is there an aftermarket film that provides less obstruction, like a one way mirror?

Never had any trouble seeing out the windows normally, even when the film was new. Any normal amount of available light even on overcast or at nighttime seems to get through. I didn't use like limo tint or anything though, i was a lil conservative.

Make sure to get good tint with lots of metal particles in it. I bought the cheap stuff, and it faded in like 8 months...to purple. It's horrible.

You shouldn't have any problem with fade with the newer films but have a good shop do it anyway. They'll be faster and better and have the newer films.

There's also the extra benefit of security, depending on how dark you go - and a good shop won't go darker than what's legal in your neck of the woods.

It also cuts the glare out and that makes the cabin much more comfortable. My wife is very happy I convinced her on her car.

Yeah, tinting really does make a difference in cabin temp though not a huge one. Couple of tips though...

1) Have a pro do it, someone who has been tinting windows a long time and who will be there ten years from now (relates to tip#2). Oftentimes, they may want to remove some of the glass from your car to do an even better looking job though at considerable extra cost.

2) Choose someone who offers a lifetime warranty against fade. After only ten years, the film on my turbo sedan has faded considerably and needs to be replaced, which will wind up costimg me about triple the cost of the original tint job.

Oh yes, here in west Texas window tinting makes a HUGE difference in inside tempeture, take it to a pro and tell them you want it for cooler temps....I am not positive but "darker does not mean cooler" sounds right...

I have done several and it is well worth it....I would have it done though...I have tried the DIY stuff twice and had a sorry looking mess when I got done....it was still a lot cooler tho...and having it done right only cost about twice as much as the rolls of film and it will look and last 100 times better.

I don't know about how much difference it would make in Vancouver, but in Texas you can feel the difference --- it is like being out in the sun versus out in the shade.

Depends on the quality. Darker does not mean cooler. You might want to check the metal particals in the tint film. The higher the number, the better the ability to reflect heat. A good tint film will reduce cabin temperature, and also cuts out UV rays.
