87 245 Turn Signal Nightmare 200 1987

Hello all-

Friday as I was driving home I noticed a peculiar problem with my 87 245. When I went to activate the turn signal, there came a loud fast buzz from inside the dash and the turn signals did not work (in either direction). I stopped and bought a new flasher, to no avail. Turns out the fast buzz was the flasher going at light speed. I am a little stumped as to what might be the cause of this problem. Oh, by the way, the hazard lights work perfectly.

If anyone has had this happen before or has any idea as to what it might be, the help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all in advance.

I had a similar condition on my '86 245... except I can't remember if the flashers were tested or not at the time of failure...

in any case my solution was replacing the turn signal relay... it is behind the DS right side kick plate in the center console near the front (kind of to the left of the radio panel).

I got a similar relay from the junk yard and swapped it in there and then my signals clicked normally.

just a possibility.

For most flashers, the more current the faster they work. So you may
have a short.
Also it is possible that somehow the flasher got into a situation that
when it flashes it cuts its own power supply. That's what a buzzer does.
Could it be connected backwards? or a power supply wire broken and it's
getting feedback power from somewhere else?
