240 SRS sensor 200

Hi,

93 240 classic -- the SRS light just went on. Our street is under construction; could this be the culprit? Is this something I should bring to the mechanic to investigate? Any way I could just try to reset it myself? (I'm no mechanic, but willing to get my hands dirty.)

Thanks for any info!

I'm not familiar with SRS systems other than what I've heard on the 'board, but I'm guessing you're going to have to take this one to a mechanic. My Bentley manual continunally reinforces that an airbag is an explosive device, and that extreme care must be utilized when working in the vicinity of it. Additionally, these airbags have a service life of ten years, so yours, in addition to all original airbags in 240s, has expired. That doesn't mean it won't work or that it's unsafe, but that if it's the original airbag it is unfair to presume it is still as good as new.
