i thinnk i fried my instrument cluster...HELP 900

ok, i tried changing the instrument cluster bulbs that light in the gas gauge, clock, speedo, tach, and gas gauge. i did this just now...at night with a flashlight (i know, not the brightest idea, but i wanted it to be nice for the commute tomorow morning).
so everything went fine until i had to put the cluster back into its place. the top rear of the cluster touched something, the upperpartof the das, i think, and i smelt smoke.....now the cluster does not light up at all, and when i turn on the parking lights, i get the highbeam, rear fog lamp, and the left blinker lighting up in the cluster.

i feel like a moron!
thanks in advance

    problem solved!
today, while driving around for work, i called up a junkyard that specializes in volvos near the office in bayshore/babylon, NY. the guy put aside a 940 ins. cluster for me. i payed $75 for it, and it had 175,XXX miles on it.

i got home, took out my fried one, and placed in the recently acquired. tested all the lights, drove, seemed fine. so i took it apart, and replaced the speedometer so i would have accurate mileage, and replaced the bezel, and cover attached to bezel (its all one piece). one instrument cluster with a used rear, used circuitry board, used gauges but the speedo, my speedo, my bezel.

placed it back in the car...works...done...never touching it again

ps:at least with the baterry hoked up i wount touch it.

      Dear 9,

Good p.m. Bravo: Well done!! Now, you can do everything relating to the instrument cluster, that might ever be required: remove, swop gauges, replace lights, etc.

      Yours faithfully,

      spook

          Dear R aka 9,

Good p.m. and may this find you well.

          While you've conquered cluster dread,
You might want to stop, while you're ahead
For while two tachs interesting would be
The effort will drive you, to insanity.

          Yours faithfully,

          spook

The surround is metal, so any contact would cause a short. Best to pull the cluster again and inspect the flexible printed circuit board on the back for any shorts. If you fried this, the good news is that Borton will sell you a replacement for only $125 or so: not bad.
Whenever you do this kind of work, it's a good idea to remove the battery negative so you avoid just this situation.

$125 for a new flex board?! Not bad. Mine is shot and I put off replacing it beause I thought it was a lot more.
