Oil pump spring and plunger change(Dewfpo) S90-V90

Back again, I've read the faq about the oil pump spring plunger being plastic and thinking about changing out the part while I've got the front section down this far just for saftey purposes. Question does the crank have a central bolt holding the balancer on I need to back out ,or is there just the small bolts around the balancer holding it on? I guess theres gotta be a center bolt to keep every thing tied down. Ever done this job? All thoughts app.
Thanks
Poolman

It is VERY unlikely that your car has the plastic plunger. They apparently were only used for a short time in early production. I wouldn't go to all that work unless I had some evidence that there is a problem.

    Hi Poolman,

The vibration damper has 4 mounting bolts plus the center bolt. You'll need a puller for the damper and the crankshaft pulley. There's a seal behind the crank pulley as well. You may have to pull the radiator to get cleance for the puller. You can then pull the pump. I've not heard of anyone having a problem with the pressure relief springs on the newer 960/90 series.

No I have never R & R'd the oil pump on these cars.

I personally wouldn't touch it if your not having any problems with oil pressure. Just stick with a good quality synthetic oil.

When you do this, write it up for the FAQ so we can keep a record of your experiences.

I'm not having any problems with the oil pres, so it stays as is, after the info I'd read in the faq's about the spring problem ,lead me to belive that all the pumps 98 and back would be plagued with this problem. Thanks saves me a hassle.
