IN-TANK FUEL SENDING UNIT/PUMP QUESTION 200 1986

I recently replaced my in-tank fuel pump and noticed that there are 3 outlets coming off the top of the unit. Two have hoses connected to them and the third closest to the rear of the car has a rubber plug over it. What is that port for? If I wanted to install a small aux fuel tank over the wheels/behind the back seat (10-12 gallons or so) could the feed hose (by gravity) be tied into that extra port?
Has anyone else installed an aux fuel tank?

Thanks in advance.....

    IN-TANK FUEL SENDING UNIT/PUMP QUESTION 200 1986

on the older kjet cars, there was a return hose from the accumulator. it was deleted sometime in the 70s, i think. the sender fits all the 240s, so the pipe has to be there. good luck, chuck.

    IN-TANK FUEL SENDING UNIT/PUMP QUESTION 200 1986

You could do that. Just bear in mind you'd need a shut off valve, so you would drain the aux tank in only when you wanted to, otherwise it would just gravity feed and overflow the main tank (if already full).
And just be very very careful when dealing with fuel- secure everything as you would if building a race car. I know I don't have to tell you that, but I feel better about it.
I have wondered what that port was for, I always thought it was for the charcoal canister, but it's capped on every car I've worked on.
