940 has code 2-3-2 900 1991

91 940GL with B230F LH2.4 and EZ116K 265K kms

This afternoon I checked the diagnostic unit on my 940 and the code 2-3-2 was displayed. I have been having intermittent trouble starting the car recently (last week or so) but only when the engine is cold. Yesterday morning it took three attempts to get it started.
I once saw this code on my car about 4-5 years ago. I cleared it and it never came back until today.
About 1 month ago I removed and cleaned the throttle body and replaced the gasket, replaced the idle valve hoses and cleaned the idle valve itself.

I've done some research in the archives and have found a bit of conflicting info. But most of what I read suggests looking for vacuum leaks, faulty FPR, exhaust leaks. Anything else?

Should I reset the diagnostic and hope it doesn't come back for another 5 years?
:)

Any input would be very welcome

Thanks

Brad

I've been having a closer look at things under the bonnet and found that part of the intake manifold gasket around the front cylinder has a split but I'm not sure if it goes all the way through. The gasket is a red one. I've heard these can give trouble and that it is better to replace it with the green(?) gasket. Is this true?
I guess it's worth replacing it in any event seeing that it has that split in it. Otherwise the car runs perfectly fine - just a little hard to start sometimes after sitting for a while (ie overnight). I have a feeling this might be the fuel check valve though.

Thanks for the responses

Brad

Look for vacuum leaks in the intake system (cracks in air intake hose, cracks in vacuum hoses or looseness at fittings, intake manifold gasket). See the 700/900 FAQ under "features" button above for more help.

I have looked up the fault code in the Volvo manual I have, and it reads as follows:-

2-3-2 Fuel supply too weak or too rich at idling.

Symptoms :- Engine stops after starting from cold, high fuel consumption and poor driveability.

Hope this helps.

PS Causes in my experence are vacuum or air leaks so check all connections, gaskets and hoses for leaks and condition especially in areas you have made adjustments or have done work on.
