5w/20 or 5w/30, does it make a difference 900

I recently just bought a mazda for winter driving just that I can put my 940 in the garage for winter. The mazda calls for 5w/20 engine oil but it is so diffcult to find the 5w/20 on the market. If I put 5w/30 in the car, it is going to make any difference? Any advices will be appreciated.

Probably slightly less fuel economy, if any difference at all. I'm surprised you're having trouble finding 5w-20 though, most of the large auto parts stores carry it now (pep boys, advance auto, etc...).

    What mazda did you buy?

'93 945 turbo. A big comfy box.... and a '90 Mazda 626 GT turbo, 16psi on upgraded turbo and a bunch of other mods.

No difference what so ever. Not even fuel economy. Your engine will probably last longer too with 5w30.

The auto manufacturers use the slight MPG gain in a collective effort to improve CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) ratings. The gain might be slight by most standards, including yours or mine, but it IS still a gain.
