Heated seats don't work!!! 900 1994

Hello, last year I switched out my trashed stock 1994 940 wagon manual seats, for 1993 940 wagon heated/ power seats... All went smoothly, and I don't think that the heated seats ever worked, but I can hear the relays click under the seat... Now, my question is, is this a relay problem? (as I have heard this can happen) or is this a heating element problem?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Tim

    Dear Tim,

Good p.m. and may this find you well. As you will need to remove the driver's seat to get at the seat relay, be sure first to disconnect the negative battery cable clamp from the battery terminal, and put the cable clamp in a plastic bag.

This ensures that the airbag sensor - under the driver's seat - cannot deploy the airbag, if the sensor should be banged or thumped, while you're removing/installing the seat. An airbag deployment at close quarters is dangerous (possibly lethal) and costly, about $1K for a new airbag unit.

If your seats are tan leather, use the heaters sparingly. The tan leather tends to dry out quickly. Heat will speed that process, for any leather, especially the tan variety. You might want to use Lexol or Leatherique on the seats, a little more often than otherwise you would, if you need to use the seat heaters a lot.

Best of luck with this repair.

    Yours faithfully,

    spook

    Yours,

Look for one of the red or black wires to have pulled off the thermostat buried in the seat foam. It's roughly centered under the bottom cushion.
My experience is back seat passengers catch the wires with their feet and accidentally pull them off the thermostats. It just pushes back on with a tiny spade lug. Pull the seat for access or put it all the way up, and use a little mirror to see. Kind of a pain but that's probably what happened.
You're hearing the thermostats click as they reach temperature.
