ES Wheel Paint Color Is? 1800

Restoring my ES (doesn't need much) and time to do the wheels. Looks like a cross between silver and battleship gray, flat not gloss. I'd like to get something in a spray can. Any suggestions? The car is California rust free mint. I rubbed out the body paint (yellow) and it looks great. Thanks.

For what it's worth, 2 of the wheels on my '66 S are un-painted steel and 2 are steel paint over a flat pea green - the steel paint is coming off to reveal the green. The green doesn't seem to be a paint but may be a powder coat or similar tough primer. Have no idea which (if any) are original to car, but all have the same squared holes and small hubcaps one would expect.

I had been wondering about that. I carry mine in a 122 wagon, and before
that in a 2-door 122. Both worked pretty good. I could get it in the 164
but had to lean both front seats back to get it in, then lean them back up.
Is the ES compartment big enough, or do you have to run the neck up between
the seats? (Don't have to on a 122 wagon.)

My bass slides right in the back with the headstock coming between the seat a little but makes a good armrest without interfering with shifting. Still plenty of room for my little GK amp, luggage and a passenger. Plus, style for days and days!!!
Here's to making greart music and getting to the gig in one piece!

    Try this:
    www.eastwoodco.com
Look under "specialty coatings". These guys are amazing and sell lots of specialty restoration products, tools and supplies. I just want one of everything they sell.

Just head to your local car parts store, and get their Wheel paint. It'll look fine.

The real question at hand though... Does your upright bass actually fit in the ES? Can you still have a passenger (other than the dog) with the bass in there?

If it fits, I can't think of a more appropriate bass toting car than a ES. Specially if you do jazz. If country or rockabilly stuff, I'd go for semi-custom 122 wagon.

Yep, I'm a jazz player (with this bad ride, emphasis is on player, playa'). The bass fits as does my amp and still room for some luggage for clothes. Yes, and a passeneger still fits, too. The headstock comes a little in between the seats to make a nice arm rest and doesn't get in the way of shifting. My car is yellow, and it would be rockabilly worthy with some flames painted on the front. For rockabilly or bluesgrass, a stakebed truck would do it.

    ABHES;

Your right on the color...I call it dark silver (anthrisite?).

...and not to give a smarta** answer, but it's "wheel color". It is(was?) available from IPD in spray cans, and people had reported good results (I haven't used it yet)...naturally, as with any paint job, how good the final wheels look, and how long they will look that way, will be a function of preparation as with any paint job. I've also found that most silver paint colors seem to be more porous than pastels...so a clearcoat may be a good idea.

    Cheers
