hi all, 85 244 turbo just installed AW-71 tranny. spedometer not working, spring cable inside sheath not spinning when removed from speedometer. can the gear with teeth inside the tailshaft housing spin freely on the shaft and not turn the plastic gear that plugs into the tailshaft housing? what holds this gear on the shaft? i think that is what is happening but would like to have some input before i remove tailshaft housing (only fun the first time) thanks for any input

It could be that the cable rather than the drive gear is broken. Ie. pull on the spring cable and see if it slips out broken.

hi there, it is not the cable or the drive gear as i replaced them. thanks for the thought.
