Welcome to 'Erik the Red' ..... 140-160

Picked this baby up a week or so ago ...... '74 142S with 297,000km on the clock - dead straight, complete & rust free & running like a swiss (swedish?) watch.

Cost me $550 (australian - about US$400) complete with spare engine & g'box.

Took me a bout 30sec to make up my mind :o)

Not out of any specific car - they are a USA aftermarket seat I believe .... "Procar" brand.

The guy I co-drive for imported 2 pairs a few years ago - one set went into his father's Mustang classic rally car, the other into his Mk 1 Escort Twincam (& are now mine as he has put a set of Recaro fixed-back seats in it)

Good score... Didja get any race history with it? One would tend to expect some performance mods...

      A sheep in wolf's clothing .... 140-160

The car is actually completely standard & has no competition history ... the guy I bought it off (a fellow Historic Rally Association member) just put the stickers on it to dress it up a bit !

It's currently running twin Strombergs, but I have a set of Su HS6's as well to try on it. It has the "integrated" manifolds - but the Australian delivered cars don't have the secondary butterflies & the "mixing chamber" in the inlet manifold (our emissions laws weren't as tight back then) and has the twin downpipe exhaust manifold.

I have already transferred the Koni rally shocks to it out of my old car, and the sumpguard, harnesses, tripmeter, "period" leather competition seats etc will go in later in the year (I have a rally I am organising to get out of the way first .....). Will probably uprate the springs to 164 fronts & 145 rears to stiffen it up a bit, as well. I have a pair of Cibie Super-Oscars (genuine 70's vintage) to go on the front as well as the Oscars that are in the photo.

If I get enthusiastic I might put a rollcage in it sometime in 2005 - in the meantime it will be used for TSD-type road rallies & the odd motorkhana/autocross etc.

There are a few more pics in the Gallery .... I'll post more as the project progresses.

      Dave

That is soooo awesome! It looks great! And soo cheap to! Yes please keep us updated. Your springy plan of action sound like it'll take care of the suspension. What wheels are you going to be using? Just the steel ones that are on there to keep it period looking(sounds like what you're going for), or what?

Yep, sticking with the standard steel (5.5") wheels, seeing I have a dozen of them :o)

.... they may get painted white though
