740 Turbo no start 700 1987

760 b230ft runs intermittently. The injectors seem to be the missing link. No pulse to injectors when it is not running. When it does run, unplugging the radio suppression relay will cause it to stall, so I assume that part is good. Both fuel pumps run. Are the main fuel pump terminals interchangeable? Can a bad fuel pump relay cause the injectors not to fire? I am blaming the wiring harness, which is in obvious need of replacement, for the no-start situation, but could it be a bad injector grounds (are these the brown wires above the intake manifold?)? If it is bad wiring in the harness, can new wires be run to temporary overcome internal harness deterioration? When the car runs, it runs strong and my fuel injection light shows that the injectors are pulsing just fine.

Thanks for the help,

Hob

hall sensor in distributor or broken connector at distributor? 700 1987

Also the 87's are notorious for engine harness wiring rot. If you're going to keep the car replace the harnesses and be done with it.

Have you checned the ballast resistor on the driver side wall of the engine compartment? I have the same model. It was one of the 'no start' culprits and it will cause what you describe should the connector(s) or connection fail.

Thanks. All wires (green and red/green) leading to the resistor (the 4 barrel thing?) appear to be intact. I have not removed the resistor or anything like that. Should I unplug and plug in the connector? Some of the wires leading to the resistor show some rot. Is there a way to freshly wire from injectors to this resistor that you know of? I think my problem is somewhere between the injectors and this point.

Thanks again.

Hob

My problem was that the wires had broken clean off of the resistor. I just soldered the leads back on. You can run new wire of you believe it will solve the problem - just follow the old wires. Might have to do some soldering.
