240 Wipers Won't Shut Off 200 1993

I used my wipers today in the rain, and when putting the lever in the off position, they keep going! I shut the car off, and of course they turn off, but upon starting up, they keep going! Help!

What can I check!

Thanks Friends,

John Peterson

The previous answers come from a couple of real experts, but I remember a couple of postings in the past with wiper motor run-on caused by a faulty ground conection. Seems that some other circuit looses the normal ground and as a result, the wiper motor becomes an alternate path to ground.

If the other more likely causes don't pan out, search the archives for more info on this.

    Good Luck,

    Dan

pull the intermittent relay from the left front of the drivers floor, it's behind the metal vertical panel. it might be full of water or rust. if the relay's ok, then my money's on a bad wiper motor. very common for the park switch in the motor to fail, thereby keeping power on when the wiper switch is off. good luck, chuck.

    There are four likely causes:-

    1- Wiper relay contacts stuck.

2- Self-park switch in wiper motor.

    3- Wiper switch.

4- Short circuit in the wiring loom.
