If you have a steel oil pan or aluminum one why don't you just epoxy a strong magnet to the bottom of the oil pan near the drain plug ?
This will accomplish the same thing by attracting the small particals to it on the other side of the pan. The tiney magnet on the plug will only attract minimal particals due to it's size.

Remove the oil pan, get a drain hole alignment tool from IPD and install per instructions. Failing all this, then use super glue.

You are kidding right ? They don't really sell a "tool" to help you install the drain plug, do they ? I find if I hold the shaft of the bolt so only a mm is oast my fingers, it will start into the drain just fine.

Yes he is kidding. IPD discontinued the magnetic drain plug alignment tool.

Keep in mind..That installing too large a magnet on the oilpan can actually cause the rotation of the crankshaft to produce an electrical current which inturn could cause such things as radio interferance as well as interferance with the fuel injectors...

But with a strong enough magnet, maybe that could replace the alternator!
