Engine Questions 200 1979

How much does a B21F engine weigh?
What does the three digit number printed in red on the timing belt cover mean?

Engine Questions 200 1979

Oooh, I've been meaning to ask the question about the timing cover all my life. Why does mine have 512 on it?

Can't help. The web site I provided only has listings for North American engines, sorry.

to decipher the 3-digit code, see http://home.blarg.net/~volvo242gt/Engnum.html

decipher as following, for example:

498778/9 B21F, 9.3:1 compression, EGR, 107 hp, 1979 49 State/Canada

With this engine, the sticker on the timing cover would read 778 for a stick car and 779 for an automatic.

But note that any B2x engine can use any B2x timing cover, so your engine may not have the original timing cover and the number on the sticker may be meaningless.
