Dear all,
I'm restoring a 1964 220 back to 100% originality but one thing I cannot find here in Denmark (and are very difficult even in Sweden!) - are original steel-rim for this model/year.
The rim for the 220 is 4,5" where as the 120/130 rim was only 4". Please be aware of this fact.
Volvo partno. is 662842-4 and should be stamped in the rim.
Is there anyone out there who could help me out?
Since they will be a kill to ship - I would like to have some terms -like digital photo of each, good and reliable describtion, if possible a "weight"-check (?) -to see if they are out of balance and a reasonable valuation of how good they will come out after sandblastering and so on.
This rim also came on the early P1800's 1961-1964-models.
If one of you would take up this task - I'm willing to pay shipping for up too 10 rims. My offer in return -will of course either be a honest payment or in exchange some lovely parts -I run a small business with parts, original only and do also have a very big warehouse of used good parts.
Please help out! -I even have the more rare original fender-emblems "Volvo 221" and fender mirror -all NOS.. and as mentioned want the car to look as if just came of the assemply-line..
Thanks!
/Soren

I know that the 4 inch rims were standard, but I believe you could get the 4.5 as an option. I know I saw them mentioned in the volvo performance publication. Also, I bought some rims from a junkyard a while back (about 25$ per wheel) and I accidentally bought two 4.5 and two 4.0 inch rims. The point is that unless you have the tire off and have them side by side that .5 inch is really really hard to notice. IT will be even harder to notice the difference in the rim lip (slightly different shape between 4.5 and 4.0) when you have your trim rings on. If I were you I would just put the 4.5s on. Only someone with a very large caliper would be able to tell the difference without taking the tire off.

Hi Mario,
I'm not sure if I understand you correct -
"If I were you I would just put the 4.5s on. Only someone with a very large caliper would be able to tell the difference without taking the tire off."
- I guess you mean "...I would put 4,0" on.." ?
Anyway, I have my reasons:
The 220 was delivered with 6,40-15 tyres and the 120/130 with 5,90-15 tyres. (Which also gives a slight more height..)
And since I'm looking for 100% originality - I gotta find those rims..
I'm crazy enough to fullfill this even down to part-numbers and so on.
You can tell the difference between the rims by checking the stamped number on the outside-center of the rim - so it's easy to determine wheather it's a 4,0" or a 4,5" rim - even with tyres on.
The 4,0" rims, pressed steel, Part no. 89991-4
The 4,5" rims, pressed steel, Part no. 662842-4

If they don't read the part number, which is usually stamped near the hub.

Not much of help, but I do have one of these rims... I live in Holland.
Are you sure there are not more of these around in Sweden, or Finland/ Noreway/ Denmark or so?
Good luck with it, cheers ben.

Hi Ben,
Thanks - and yes, through "normal" sources I haven't been succesfull in finding the rims!
If you have one in good condition, I would like to buy it!
Holland isn't that far away - and I have thought of visit Volvomeetings in Holland next summer - let's see..
Anyway, if transport isn't "killing" I would still be glad for also a single one from Holland!
Thanks,
Soren

Um, I checked my single rim. It's a 4" not a 4,5"... But, by the looks of it, it seems you'll be able to purchase a set of rims via the tips on the BB here. If not, send my an email by that time. Maybe I'll be able to find a set over here if realy necessary.
Cheers, Ben
