New steel rim for spare tire for 245

I recently shredded the space saver spare in my 93 245 and need another. I checked a few tire shops and no one sells a replacement (155 R15 90), so I think I'll just get a 14" steel rim and mount a full size tire on it and use that as a spare.

If anyone has a better way to go, pls let me know.

If anyone is willing to sell and ship a 14" steel wheel to the Dallas area, pls email me at jkordzi@mfire.com

DEFINITELY get the full size spare - you can buy both the rim and tire used - it fits because earlier models all had full-size spares. That is if it is vertical behind the wheel (mine was a '79) Try a good private volvo mechanic or wrecker for the rim, good tire shop for the tire. Total cost $40 for the rim $10 - 25 for the tire. Or just buy a new tire for it and be ready when you need a spare to continue your journey! I did the same thing with my 745.

What exactly, did you do for your 745, since a full size spare won't fit the space available?

If your in Dallas, go to the pic-&-pull yard in Grand Prarrie. Their yard is loaded with 240's and spares. Might also find somthing you need for you brick.
What else have you got to do on a Sat morning??

I think the 165/15 is a good opt if you want a new spare. They are about $40 for a Michelin. This is a very common size for all the older Volvo's from 1958-1975, not to mention every Volkswagon Beetle ever made. If you put a 14" stock tire on a stock rim, it would be too wide to fit into the spare wheel well.

Thanks - I've been to that yard and recently got a 951 ecu for about $30 on 1/2 price day, but seem to remember the wheels were all gone. Do you know if the 165/15 will positively fit on the space saver rim? A couple of tire shops claimed that rim/tire combo was unique.

I thought about mounting another tire on the space saver rim. Do you know if the 165/15 will positively fit on the space saver rim? A couple of tire shops claimed that rim/tire combo was unique.

I would trust what Jim says. If you can prove him wrong on something, would be a board first I think...

Thanks for the vote of confidence; I'm not that sure, myself.
However, I have 165s in both my 700s, on the original spare rims, due to limited space in the spare well.
My 200s have all had real rims and tires, since there's plenty of room.
