CR-814 Radio 900 1992

When the fader is moved to "front", only the dash speakers work. When the fader is moved to "rear", the dash speakers go out, as expected, but all 4 door speakers are silent. I pulled the unit and all connections are secure. I know where the amp is (through this forum), but have not checked any of the connections there, yet. Is it the amp or the unit?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a 960 model 1992, that year for some reason the amps go bad - it blows a fuse(#32 I think)

The amp is located to the left under the stearing column above the knee bolster.

Thanks for the advice. It was a fuse. I installed a new one and the amp worked fine, but I did smell something like plastic burning. It was mild and only lasted a couple of minutes. No problems since.

The amp acutally operates on 4 channels. With no amp, the radio operates just the dash speakers. With the amp on, the fader in the "front" position operates the dash speakers and the front door speakers. With the fader in "rear" position, the rear door speakers come on.

It’s got to be a bad amp, or a blown amp fuse.

I've got a '93 945T. The factory setup for my car is that the four door speakers went through the amp, the two dash speakers went straight to the radio. Thus, if the amp isn't working, only the dash speakers would work (I’ve since put in an aftermarket radio and bypassed the amp).

Here’s the wiring diagram for my car, courtesy of gwenelf:

AMP (the harness going into the amp)

RF+ Grey/White

I believe (but not 100%) that the amp drives the rears only.
Hence, could be the amp, wiring, rears, etc...

On my 240, there was a fise and holder inline to the power line to the amp (i.e. not on the fuse panel). It took a while to find it, replace the fuse, and the amp worked again. Of course, wiring is very differnet on the 940....

check power going to amp first.

Also another easy check it to see of the rear speakers have impedance (likely 4-8 ohms using an ohmmeter) - check inside the trunk.

Also, there might be a DIN cable linking the outputs of the head unit to the amp - did the cable fall out the back of the head unit?
