Volvo Cowboys? 120-130

Just came by the 122S brochure for the US-market, 1958-9!..

Original text: "Swedish Cowboys, Hi Pardner, can y'all give us a ride back to the ranch in that new Volvo 122S of yours?"

Stereotypes? Too many John Wayne movies?..

:-)

I do like that bochure... very cool.

And why not? There was a fella locally that had his car serviced by the local independent Volvo shop.. He used his 245 as a ranch car. Including herding the cattle. Never let him down so he said.

The first Volvo dealership in the US was in Texas. Maybe the brochure photo is Volvo's way of greeting its expected customers with a cheery "Howdy y'all, by yiminy!".
Yah you betcha, mosey on over to the showroom.

Al,

Speaking of Volvo Cowboys ..... a coupla miles from my house, the 122S that belonged to LBJ (yes, the late President Johnson) sits in the showroom of our local Volvo dealership.

I've had the pleasure of providing a few missing pieces to aid in the final touches of it's restoration.

I may have imagined it, but I could swear that I once saw a photo of LBJ in the Driver's seat of that same 122, taking it out for a ride on the Johnson Family Ranch about 60 miles west of here. Anybody else see this anywhere?

On the statement about the first Volvo dealership:

I have read, or heard it mentioned somewhere else, that, as you said, the first Volvo dealership in the US was in Texas, maybe Houston, but I've also heard that the first Volvo franchise dealership was "McKevitt Volvo" in Berkeley, California.

This from the McKevitt Volvo web site:
http://www.mckevitt.com/SlowDSL/Read.asp

" We are America's oldest Volvo dealer, selling and servicing Volvo products for almost 50 years."

It's great that you had a hand in helping to complete a car with such an interesting history.
I don't remember seeing the photo of LBJ in a 122S. I suppose it was an interior shot, just showing the man, a bit of the dashboard and steering wheel? It would be a hoot to post that in the Brickboard gallery.

I got my dealership info from an old article written by the late, great Warren Weith, former columnist of Car and Driver back in the Ziff-Davis days. His column was often Volvo-specific.
