Fuel pump relay repair possible? 200 1989

Hi, I had stalling problems about 2 years ago, I searched this forum and found out it mostly had to do with the fuel pump relay. I bought a new one and the problem was gone. Now 2 years later I'm having exactly the same problem again.
The relay is $60 at NAPA so I was wondering if it's possible to repair a relay.
I opened up the one I'm using now and everything looks fine. I also opened up the original one and that one appears to be fine as well.
Any suggestions???
Thanks.

Fuel pump relay repair possible? - YES, of course! 200 1989

Remove the relay cover and look with a loupe at the relay contacts. Mine were burnt after 3 years and the solder was fine, just like yours. Took a nail file to them and all is well now. That oversight cost the PO almost $500 a couple of weeks before in unnecessary work, which decided him to sell the car to me for cheap ('87 760 GLE).

It's surprising to me that so few here remember the days we used to have to do that with ignition points during normal tune ups. Then again I guess like at the dealer where my PO used to bring his car, no mechanic was old enough to ever have done that on any car. Boy does it ever make ME feel old...

Good luck and let us know if it helped.

As Don said, Run Solder over all the connections. Cold solder joints are sometimes hard to see with the untrained eye.
You are right $60 bucks hurts.

Resolder 'em both. $0, 15 minutes, no risk, clean 'n easy work. If it helps nothing, you're out nothing.

Tony and Don, thanks for the info. I'm not very technical, how and what do I resolder?

Bruce described how to get to the printed circuit board in the fuel punp relay. A tutorial on soldering is below, stolen shamelessly from an old Heathkit manual...

I use a small iron (about 25 watts) for the smaller connections and a gun (150-200 watts) for the heavier connections.

Pry off the white relay cover to expose the printed circuit board. Then look in the 700/900FAQ under "Basic Information — Relay Basics" and scroll down to the photos.

That will show you where the resoldering is done. The "how" is another matter...
