Intank pump replacement; anyone have the AC part number ?? 200 1989

I need to replace a failed ScanTech intank pump on my 89 244. Does anyone have an AC partnumber for the pump? I am looking for a quick local sourced pump and I have seen reference to an AC pump that will work. Anyone have have any information? Thanks.

Randy

I've been 'told' that the in-tank pump is identical to the 'single' electric pump used in mid-70's Chevy Vega (which would, naturally, be an AC Delco product)..if that's any help...sorry I don't have more information immediately at hand.

    Best of luck!

AC pump? Using a long extention cord?

        Hi Randy,

Saw you found the trouble, but I had a question while you might be looking at the Scan Tech unit: Is there anything molded on it to suggest it isn't made by AC Delco? My sneaking suspicion is Scan Tech does not have a pump factory. But rather a lot of blue bags and boxes.

Just asking, as I've never seen a new transfer pump; been subsisting on the JY versions.

          Art,

The ScanTech pump and the one I got this morning at Auto Zone were identical. The side of the case is stamped E8381 421.

The top of the pump has EP30-16 and an upper case A with a circle around it. The bottom of the pump has EP30-10 and another upper case A with a circle around it.

The box from Auto Zone identifies it as a "Master". Then Master Parts Division, 407 West Main Street; Fairfield, IL 62837 It says on the box that it is made in the USA and gives a Tech Serv number as (800) 424-7839. The box also identifies it as being NASCAR Officially Licensed.

          That's all I know.

          Randy

Price difference? Did you ask for a Volvo part at Autozone? Are they different than the bum one you removed back when?

Speaking of the original...I don't know if you autopsy things much, but I found a dead transfer pump to be just worn out brushes, and only dead if it stops in the wrong place. "That tire's only flat on the bottom!"

I learned something from your post though. The noise a main pump makes from a clogged return is just a slighly louder version of the smooth hum made by one being properly regulated. But the noise one makes when drawing air (cavitating) is the awful, noticeable, wonder-if-the-neighbors-can-hear-it-too noise that might lead someone to think something was wrong.
