My 1986 245DL is undriveable 200 1986

Thank you for taking the time to read this post!
My wagon is driving me nuts, it dies when I give it anything more than just the slightest pedal pressure, yet it will idle all day long with just the mildest occasional miss. It will drive if I gently feather the throttle to get the car rolling but will try to stall, if given much more than 1/3 throttle. I have replaced the cap, wires, plugs and rotor. Also installed a new fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator. Replaced the exhaust system minus the cat and resonator. The throttle switch checks out okay per the Haynes manual and the supply line to the fuel rail has 85 PSI deadhead pressure ( I don't have the fitting to test the pressure while the engine is running ). I have checked the air filter and the intake piping, it is free of obstruction. The head gasket was replaced about 200 miles ago and it ran quite well during that time. Also checked for vacuum leaks with ether and found none. Not certain what to do next?
Thanks very much in advance!

Thanks for the suggestions. I disconnected the Mass Air Flow Sensor in an attempt to make the computer ignore it and it did not make any difference in the way the car ran. I'm tempted to try a different Throttle Switch mine checked out okay with a meter and I could hear it clicking when the throttle starts to open. Not sure what else to check except for the ECM. I suppose I should also pull the timing cover and check that the marks are aligned. Since I replaced the head gasket it's possible the belt may have jumped a tooth on the distributor or cam.

What happens when you pull the connection from the AMM and try to start and run it that way? It should be driveable like this if the AMM is at fault even though it won't run all that well without the AMM since the ECU defaults to full rich mixture.

Good luck,
Dave

SOunds like the AMM to me too. I had an 87 that would die under hard throttle within a few seconds, but could idle for hours. Turned out to be a connection at the air mass meter. Check the six-pin plug there and make sure it's tight.
If it's tight and the pins are in good shape, replace it.
There are lots of good used 007 air mas meters around these days. They fit all 85-88 240s, as well as I think all 700 up to 88 and 700T up to 89.

Sounds like your Air Mass Meter is fried.
