Update 200 1988

I've decided on replacing my current transmission in the next month, I even have someone lined up to do the work. I have an 88 240 GL. I still need to find an automatic transmission. What are my options for installing a 5 speed automatic? I've thought about the T5, but then I would have to get the swap kit and all. Even then, I think rewiring is involved. Is there an easy solution? Any help would be appreciated.

Easy? Find a good used AW70 from any 240 or 740 and put it in.
Anything else is likely to cause lots of heartburn. There's not any 5-speed auto ever designed for a RWD Volvo, and nothing that was ever mated to the "red-block" engine.
5-speed autos are a relatively recent development. The 240's 4-speed auto was seen as very high-tech when it appeared in the early 80's.
No matter how many gears you have behind it, its still the same 115hp engine anyway!
Personally I've always been quite happy with how Volvo's automatics behave themselves. They seem to know when to downshift and don't complain when I decide to do it myself.
