Just like Chuck said 700 1989

The 86 block will do what you want to do.
The motor mounts and accessories, you know about. The bracket for the LH2.4 crank sensor, like Chuck said, you need that.
Some sensors will have different contacts on the head- use the ones from your original car, along with your original wiring harness. Just match up the ones that are different- I think you'll find the coolant temp sensor is different, possibly others.

The 240 has the distributor up front and a round plug in the back of the head. The 740 has the distributor in the back of the head, and a small plug in the block up front. You need to plug the dist. hole on the block, and reuse your 740 distributor. You probably need to pull the valve cover to get the big cam plug out, so buy a new valve cover gasket (cheap enough). No need to worry about timing, it's not timed from the distributor on the 89. Just line it up and roughly center the dist, tighten it down.

Good luck with it.

240 740 engine swap?

use the flywheel, cam and dist out of the 740. swap the manifolds, mounts, harness and sensors, including the bracket for the speed sensor. then the 86 will drop right in. good luck, chuck.
