242 Turbo. 200 1982

I have recently purchase an 82 242 turbo. I have started with the 22 years worth of repairs. I just replaced the exhaust manifold gaskets. After getting that finished I found that the fuel accumulator has started leaking. I am going to to check it out but I figure that the diaphram has ruptured. Has anyone ever bypassed it?

I am having a lot of fun bringing this car back to life. I am going to post some pictures as soon a I shoot some.

      Congratulations! 200 1982

My car is the Light blue metallic with the Virgo wheels. I bought it on e-bay. I have a lot of little things to do: new seat belts (still the originals), new tires, timing belt, timing belt tensioner, front seals, fuel accumilator, etc. I also need to make sure that the turbo is working now. When I picked it up the waste-gate was stuck opened. I freed it up and readjusted the actuator, but have not been able to do a test-drive because of the fuel leak. I am going to try to get it up and reliable by spring.

I will keep you all up to date.

bypassing the accum will mean poor, if not impossible hot starts. it maintains line pressure while the car is off and hot. when the control pressure is low, the line pressure doesn't have to be as high, so cold starts won't be affected as bad. the accum also reduces the pulses the fuel pump creates, i think to steady the flow to the engine. see this link for more info.

    good luck, chuck.
