This look like a failed Valve Cover Gasket to you? (pics) 200

Was driving today and all of the sudden had some major smoke caused by oil dripping on the exhaust. Looks like a bad Valve Cover Gasket to me - you all agree? It's an 85 DL with the B230F.

Use the proper hose not the simple auto parts replacement vacuum hose,, it will swell and also some will dry rot real quick and then you get leaks,,Also if I am not mistaken there is an after market cam plug retainer plate that works real well..

Quite a compliment to be momentarily confused with Don Foster. Here's the pic I think you mean: http://www.brickboard.com/RWD/index.htm?id=741835

This device is a good catastrophe prevention if you don't keep the PCV system clean. But that would be better.

You're right Art-both paragraphs. I remembered the pic and incorrectly credited to you instead of Don Foster.

With all due credit to Don Foster.

your inventory of photos & drawings, though, are illustative enough for a "national geographic" spread.

Good call guys, I just went and checked and the rear cam plug is MIA - must have jumped ship up on the highway. Had no idea there was a cover back there.

I cleaned the flame trap a couple months back, and I replaced the flame trap to intake manifold hose, but I replaced it with regular vacuum hose/windshield washer fluid hose. Do you guys think that type of hose would cause problems? I know it is recommended to get PCV valve hose but I couldn't find any that were the right diameter at the local stores.

Pattern and amount suggest that the rear cam plug decided to let fly.
Easy fix w/ valve cover off, and before you button it up clean the entire flame trap system and check front cam and intermediate shaft seals as well.

IPD Cam plug bracket is good idea but you can also DIY with T plate from Home Despot or Loews...

Exactly-
VC gasket, cam plug, clean flame trap, and check that vacuum hose and intake manifold fitting are not plugged- they were on my 87 when I got it.
The flame trap can't vent the crankcase if the vacuum tube is blocked.

Looks like it could be the rear cam plug.

You could pop off the valve cover, change the rubber cam plug, gasket and the front half circle cam plug all at the same time.

Maybe consider the IPD rear cam plug braket?
