1987 740GLE automatic tranny type 700

I recently ordered an automatic transmission filter and gasket kit for my 1987 740GLE I gave it to my mechanic and he said that it was the wrong type that the transmission on my car looked like it had a rubber gasket and the pan was held by clips rather than bolts. What type of transmission does my car have?
Thanks
Jorge

Specifically the ZF22. 87 seems to be the last year they used it. I've seen some 87s with the Aisin Warner AW70 too, so either they used both that year or those cars were converted, entirely possible.

Your shifter would say "PRN4321" with no Overdrive switch on the side of the shift knob, right? The AW70 has "PRND21" and the pushbutton for OD off (holds car in 3rd gear).

Good luck with it!

My car doesn't have the OD button on the shifter so I guess that makes it a ZF.
Thanks for the help.

Since it's a ZFHP22, remember never to race it in Park or Neutral. A couple of minutes of this is almost guaranteed to toast your transmission.
