Headlight Bracket screws removal 200 1990

I am attempting to replace a broken headlight bracket which holds the headlight and turn signal. It is secured by three screws. The screw heads are surrounded by plastic which makes securing them with a wrench impossible. When I attempt to try and unscrew the nut on the other side the heads just spin around inside the plastic. Does anyone have any ideas or is the only option to drill them out?

Thanks

Scott

If you are talking about the LONG adjuster screws, the other side that spins around does not go through the rest of the plastic. It is a small ball that is meant to turn. If they are the long bolts with either a white or black plastic end, that is what I am talking about.

There should be a wire spring in place that is removed with a pair of needle nose pliers. The long screws will come right out.

I am trying to think of other bolts with the plastic ends and cannot. If you need a replacement set, I have them. Also have some other headlight replacement parts....Sorry no lenses or holders.

Todd :-)

He means the 3 bolts that pass thru the mount plate and anchor inthe adjuster plate that holds the headlight. The heads are held in a plastic socket in the plastic plate and if the nuts rust up any torque will cause the head to chew up the plastic socket and the head will spin freely and you have to cut the nut off and replace the bolt or grab the threads behind the plate and hold with Needle vice grip or the like and you torque the rusty nut.
Either way the mount bolt is a goner.

Unfortunately you're on the right track. They're usually rusty and just tough to deal with. Removing other stuff in the area may help for access but it's just a lousy design and a problem area. If you have to drill it out, try to find stainless screws for replacements.
You might be able to get a small (1/4 inch drive?) socket on the bolt from behind but it aint easy.
Good luck.

You might try this... spray the bolts & nuts with some PB Blaster or penetrating oil & let sit for a while. Then, tape the jaws of some vice grips and place on the end of the bolt while loosening the nut. Try not to damage the threads or you will have to cut the bolt. Once the nut come loose the should remove fairly easy.

Hope this helps...good luck!
