Camshaft pulley timing marks? 200

If the timing marks (lines or dots) on the camshaft pulley (gear?) are lined up, is the motor at TDC? Just looking for a shortcut to reinstalling a distributor and setting rough timing.

It should be, but check the crank pulley marks to verify.

You can get the dist timing close if you set it so the centerline of the rotor is about 5/16" past (CW rotation) the little 0° reference notch on the dist body. (Remove the plastic dust shield to see the 0° degree notch mark).

This will be very close to the 12°±2° advanced timing spec.
