Congrats, what did you pick up?
What I did was bypass the amp and use the four door speakers. Your harness will have two parts, one for the plug behind the radio, and the other for the plug that feeds into the amp (and have fun unplugging it from the amp, that was the most tedious job of the whole project). Once you unplug it from the amp, you would hook up that plug to the 2nd part of the harness. I had to put extenders onto those wires, about 18" or so each, so that they would reach the back of the stereo.
If your new head unit supports six speakers, the two dash speakers wires go into the back of the radio directly, I believe, and not through the amp.
As for how much power it has, I have no idea. Just hook it up and see, it should sound fine. If you need more power you might be able to pick up an adapter to use the amp already in the car, else you could use an aftermarket amp (though you might then need new speakers). I know that head units now use a different testing method now to depict their power, so I'm not sure how powerful yours is compared to what I have.
And here's the wiring diagram for your car (which is the same was what I have, a '93 945T), thanks to gwelfmike.
Behind the radio you have a round plug that goes to the amp, and a wide and thin plug (RADIO). Into the amp is a plug (besides the round plug), the wires referenced below are from that plug.
