1988 240GL, Cant Find OD Relay 200

I have taken the Glovebox out and peered into the hole. To my dismay, I found nothing that looked like an OD relay. What exactly does it look like. Also someone said that when you press the OD button and it clicks, the OD realy is usually ok. I hear clicking, but cant find where its coming from. The transmission is late changing gears anyway, you always have to let off the gas for it to change and sometimes it doesnt, and you have to downshift into second and upshift to Drive to coax it into doing so. Maybe I just Need a new Transmission. What are some cheap replacements, other than going to a junkyard? Has anyone had any luck installing another transmission other than what's supposed to go in the car? This car has to be ready to make 100 mile trips almost every weekend, in couple months (college). Im willing to put a couple thousand in it, seems like ive already invested that much into it anyway. Odometer is broken at 218,908.

New paragraph, new question. Oil seems to spew from the gas cap, like it doesnt a good seal or too much pressure, what could be the cause of this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First: Drop the transmission pan and put in a new filter. Make sure that the transmission fluid level is good afterwards. Look for any leaks.

Second: While you're under the car doing the pan, gasket, and filter,...check out the wire going to the left side OD solenoid. Make sure it's not frayed or shorting out on some metal surface. The wire travels all the way back into the passenger compartment into the stickshift where the little OD button is.

Third: The OD relay location. With the glovebox out, look to the left. It lives close to the center console. It's not behind the glovebox....it's right behind the center console...taking out the glovebox is just a simple way to see it. It's white. It slides into a metal bracket. If you push the stick shift button and hear it click..chances are it's working.

Your transmission not shifting right will probably be the fluid level. I'd recommend taking it to a quick lube place that does a flush. It's around $100 for like 16 quart flush...but this is the only way you'll know what you're dealing with.

I think a good used transmission is around $300. These Asian Warner trannys are tough. AW70/71 models are pretty much bulletproof. But if your odometer isn't working, then who knows what mileage you're dealing with..they're not that tough.
