Starter wiring question 200

Hey,

So my starter is on the way out. I have to tap it with a hammer to get it to start turning over. A replacement is on its way.

My question is, please don't flame me here heh heh heh, how do i wire in a push button to start the engine? Kinda like the Honda S2k.

Do i basically run a wire from battery +, link it to a push button, and then wire it to the solenoid on the starter?

The issue i have at hand is I want to by-pass the existing key ignition wiring. My wiring harness is pretty crumbly and I don't really trust the wiring going to the starter. (I don't intend on keeping the old 240 for much longer so replacing the wiring harness is not on the job list).

Is it possible to turn the key to Igition II (engine running position), push the starter button (using the wiring method as listed earlier), have the engine start, and when I wish to shut off the engine just turn the igition switch to OFF like normal?

If there is an easier way, or if what i typed is wrong, advice is greately appreciated.

Thanks!

i do not remember seeing what year your brick is so I will just say this.. There is an optional remote starter connection on the 240 series.. Most of them are near the firewall i think on the drivers side but not sure about that part,,anyway it is a single wire connector with a blue and yellow wire.. Connect a wire to it and then to ground(or the ues of a push button switch) to turn the starter,,You can make sure that is it by checking the voltage, it should have 12 volts only while the ignition switch is in the start position.. If you turn on the ignition swith to position 2 then it will run and yes you can just turn off the ignition switch and it will stop running..Good luck.....Max

When you said "Connect a wire to it and then to ground", I think you meant "Connect a wire to it and then to the battery positive terminal"

Why not just replace the wire that goes to the starter from the gray plug on the firewall? Ie. cut the wire (blu-yel?)near the plug. Splice in a new one and run it to the starter. Leave/bypass the old wire in the harness.

Rewiring the harness is easy on the B21a. See

You can use small dia. vinyl tubing, water tubing found in hardware stores instead of teflon tubing, as it is also heat and oil resistant though not as good.

Where are you located? (If you are going to scrap the car, let us know.)
