engine mounts unbolted 700 1986

While repairing something else (Idle Air Control valve) I accidentally unbolted TWO of the three bolts that hold the driver's side engine mount bracket to the block.
The IAC is mounted on a bracket which is bolted to the intake on the top and the block on the bottom.(Or so I thought) The rubber shocks for the IAC were broken and I couldn't get a good handle on it to unbolt the clamp and slide it out, so I just took the whole bracket out. BIG MISTAKE. The bottom bolts on the bracket are actually holding the engine mount bracket to the block as well. After I got them out (they came out surprisingly easy) the engine block slid down relative to the bolt holes in the bracket, so now I can't get the bolts back in.

Save yourself a lot of trouble and spend the time working on getting the IAC out of it's holder and don't take the bracket out with it. Stupid me....

Any ideas about how I'm gonna get those bolts back into the block?

The factory scissors jack will work under the engine and allow for very precise positioning; I did engine mounts that way and it was a snap. Under the AC or PS pump lower bracket works well, depending on which side you need to lift.

put a hydraulic jack and a block of wood under the oil pan and jack the engine up.

Will the pan be able to take it? I would have done exactly that but I was worried about bending/breaking the pan....

      Just a piece of 2x4?

      Thanks

Get a 1x6 soft pine and place it under the front lip of the pan where the front bolts are, that way the motor will lift vertially away from the mount when you put a load on it. The pan is at an angle to the block, and it will hold the weight, but this is the way I usually do the mounts. You should only need ~1 inch of lift.
