Instrument Cluster rear wires '86 + 200

My '86 240 instrument cluster has a double male spade connector on the upper left of the rear panel - where the underdash wires connect. On both of our '89's, this connector is blocked off by a piece of clear plastic tubing.

On the '86, is anything supposed to be connected to that terminal? I know that I didn't always leave it as originally hooked up when working on it many years ago. It now has a wire on that terminal (yellos??) and I may need to correct that.

I'm hoping for some confirmation that the terminal pair should be left unused on the '86, or what it is for.

Thanks

if it is just behind the speedometer section of the cluster than I know what you're referring to ...

I just installed my cruise control and one of those spade connectors is for a green wire from the cruise control computer... unused if you don't have cruise.

I removed the clear plastic "tubing" thing in order to apply the green wire for my cruise....

don't know what the yellow wire might be for???

hopefully some other knowledgeable source will throw in on that one.

Not particularly knowledgable, but I have a few wiring diagrams: The dual terminal has the signal from the speedo used for cruise and by the ECU, although the ECU gets it from the round plug pin 6. My 91 WDM shows the wire to the cruise control pin 5 is yellow on the instrument panel map. But the cruise map shows it branching to a blue/black from pin 5 (yellow) to both the instrument panel and the ECU!? Don't have that kind of detail on an 86.

The connector is one metal piece formed in a squared "U" shape to give 2 lugs. Somewhat to the left of the speedo area (looking at the back of the cluster). It's at the top.

My '86 has cruise - factory, I presume, since the control is the standard Volvo type on the turn signal stalk. The 2 '89's dont have cruise, but I wish the one I drive did!

re: Cruise control....'but I wish the one I driver did' 200

I found a Volvo CC on eBay last summer. Came from a guy who knowe what he was doing, and included the Volvo instructions. Paid him a fair price (we both liked it.)

Took a day or two to gather grommets and sealant and wits and plan of action together, and about 12 hours (I'm slow) to install. Works great.

Good Luck,

Bob

re: Cruise control....'but I wish the one I driver did' 200

Can I get a copy of the Volvo CC instructions??

Do you or someone out there know about the 2 or more types of Volvo 240 Cruse Control?? My '86 has one style, I've seen '91s with another style, and don't know which belongs on the '89 - or if it matters.

I have most of the parts for a Volvo CC, from a guy who didn't know enough about what he was doing. I'd need to make sure I've got all needed parts, etc.

Thanks in advance

Volvo CC instructions and other stuff........ 200

Yes, you can have a copy of the instructions. I will make copies and send them Priority. The usual cost is around $10, since there are a lot of pages. The instructions are in six (6) languages, as are many Volvo instructions.

There is a good bill of materials, for all but the grommets and route variations I used to avoid drilling a 1 inch hole in the firewall.

The later models use a different system. I don't know if it will work on the older (1986-1988) models. There is one on eBay as of today, Oct. 11th. I put it into a post today.

email me direct with your address.

Reagrds,

Bob
