100 watt bulbs in 89 745t driving lights? 700

Would this be too much for the electrics? Does anyone think I would be blowing through fuses? The bulbs are a direct replacement. Thanks! Dan

I put 80/100W bulbs in the high/low headlights, 100W bulbs in the high headlights, and 100W bulbs in the fog lights. The first problem is that the original wiring on a 15 year old car has deteriorated and should be replaced and upgraded if it is to pass more power than stock. The second problem is that the lights seem to pass all the power through the light switch in the car, which overheats and melts with the extra load.

I rewired my main power and ground wires with marine grade cable. I also rewired the head and fog lights, using heavier gauge cable and relays. I used the original wiring to trigger the relays. IPD sells a headlight wiring upgrade kit that is also sold for less in the major car catalogs like Summit and Jegs. It is cheaper and easier than doing it yourself from scratch, though not as good as a more thorough DIY job.

With better wiring, you get more voltage to the lights. Just putting 13V instead of 12V to the lights will increase output by as much as 20%. Check the voltage output at the alternator and then check to see what you have at the headlights. I'll guess there is a 1/2 to 1 volt difference. There does not have to be. Search the internet for Daniel Stern Lighting for more information. David at OJ Rallye is a Volvo specialist who can also help you with lighting upgrades.

Are these the stock lights? Those are fog lights, not driving lights. Not so much to gain by adding power to fog lights.
