91+ New style winshiled question 200

I just had a new style 91 and newer style winshield installed in my 1988 244 after a repaint. Pictures to come soon after I get some trim pieces. I love the way it looks and the way the tirm seems like it will stay on. However, I have noticed that water has come out from the bottom of the rubber trim on the outside of the winshild. Is this a normal thing. It certainly did with the old style, but, I just want to check. Thanks and happy bricking.

91+ New style winshiled question 200

I had a late style Pilkington windshield installed in my '84 by Cascade Auto glass, and the thing fits perfectly. I've heard of assorted gumby brand windshields not fitting properly and leaking.

91+ New style winshiled question 200

I hope that you did not have the windshield replaced by Speedy Auto Glass, what a pain. Initially I was told that the 'old' OEM Pilkington windshield, with the chrome strip, was NLA. So I went with the 'newer' style from 'acme glass co.' which was not big deal since I like the new look too.

However these guys could not get the windshield centered in the opening. Heck they even tried to say that the car had been rolled and this was the reason why the new materials would not fit. I am the original owner and 'Suzy' has just one door-ding after almost 18 years of faithful day in and out service with no accidents.

Time after time I would pick up the car (87-245) and there would be gaps, yes gaps, you could stick your fingers into between the molding and the body. They would try and fill up the gap with goop and ask me to take it. I don't think so guys.

So after 6, yes 6, windshields I insisted on a 'new' Pilkington, which required me to get very verbal in the shop in front over some potential new clients and with my insurance agent, I finally got a winshield that fits like a glove and does not leak even here in rainy old Portland, OR. They wanted me to pay the difference as the 'newer' style was more costly that the 'old' style they could not even get anymore. I don't think so guys.

Are you saying that water is flowing from inside to outside, along the bottom edge? If I understand that correctly, I've got two '93's and have never noticed this. It can't be a good sign, however; not only are you looking at corrosion, but the lack of a good seal means that you're going to experience "wind noise". Maybe you had a problem (rust, etc.) with the metal around the windshield before you installed it?
