odometer not working replaced gear still not working any sugesstions

I just fixed my 87 245 odometer.
I had to pull it seven times to get it right.
they seat and unseat pretty easy.
What finally did it is that I took a small pen knife and gently ran it over every groove on every wheel I could get to. This was to remove the tiny bits of teeth from the old disintegrated gear.

the 2 internal ones and the shaft teeth and the new gear even

Then I put it the new gear in with out the shaft through it and then placed the shaft in the hole.

At that point I think gravity and everything being with it...it finally seated the gears properly.

It's been working for 3 wks and rollin.

Make sure you seated the gear and motor correctly. Still no odometer? Get a speedo from the pick and pull where they grow on trees.
