82 242 turbo - delayed start 200 1982

Hi all,

This morning i took my daughter to school. About 2.5 hrs later, i went to leave the house and vehicle would not start....cranked strong, thought it caught, released key...no start...engaged starter again..heard quick grinding noise.

Released key....tried to crank again...very strong cranking....no start...tried over and over for about 5 minutes before engine finally fired up.

So far have not been able to duplicate.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mike

My 89 would do the same thing. Turned out to be the fuel pump relay.

No, it's located to the left of drivers knee under the dash. It's attached to the body with a clip and maybe red in color.

If teh fuel pump relay checks out then the next thing to check is the fuel pump itself. It is located on the underside of the car near the driver's rear wheel. I had similar sysmtems just prior to total failure of the fuel pump.
            Good luck
