No start after engine swap 700 1985

I recently replaced the original (running) b230ft in my 740 with a built up b23ft. Ihad all the regular head work done, and i converted the head over to the old sensors so it would run with LH2.2 that was in my car. At this point the car still doesnt start. Between my father, a bunch of friends, and I none of us can figure out why it wont start. The timing is correct, we have fuel, we have spark, and compression itself is healthy. This is driving me insane. Ive been at it for several days. So far, weve found shorts in the wiring harness and fixed them. One specifically was the leads to the hall effect pickup on the distributor. ive replaced sensors in the head. ive tried different wires. i just cant figure out why it doesnt run even tho everything is there for it to run.

Are the injectors clicking - do the plugs get wet? If not, look at the resistor pack & wiring.

Also check the power stage wiring.

Good advise to get a good wiring harness - google for dave barton.

I'm contemplating doing the same, '85 760 waggon. How did you handle the engine
accessory bracket (driver's side) - did you go 240-style, or were you able to adapt the original 740 bracket?

    Send pictures!

    cheers - dave

well i replaced some stuff this morning and it seemed more willing to light up, however, it still wouldnt... after playing with the firing order some i got it to rurn over sans 2 cylinders... so i played some more and found she runs correctly at 1243... now...... WTF is that?

the accessory bracket bolts right up, however, the b23 lacks one saundry, so i just left that bolt out...

If you are using the original '85 harness it is doubtful that you have fixed all the problems with it. The shorts and bare wires you found are most likely just the tip of the iceberg, especially after all the manipulation and twisting you would have done during an engine removal and installation. Try a good used harness, available for under $150 used.
