740 gle head? temp gauge sits at 3/4 700

I have a 740 gle with about 130000 miles. The temp gauge sits at 3/4 and I do not know if this is a foreboding of greater trouble. I have changed the thermostat, and nothing changed. The rad looks fine but I know that this does not matter. I guess my question is, is there any way to know if the head gasket has been damaged, I do not know if my ex may have overheated the car while she had it. I had an '89 740 turbo that I bought that had a fried head and did not know it and I had to sink a ton of money into it, so I am a bit paranoid. I had the compression checked and it is well with in specs. Any advice greatly appreciated before I start to sink lots of money into this one.
Cheers.

You don't say what year, but beware also of bad wiring on pre-88's. Does not sound like a headgasket.

I would check the sending unit.
