Waterproofing Rear Vent Window 444-544

The passenger side rear vent window in my car leaks. New seals for 544 rear vent windows do not seem to be available. Also the rear floor pan on my drivers side is rusted.

I have a new floor pan panel but am hesitant to have it installed until water can be kept on the outside of the car where it belongs. Has anyone been successful in refreshing their rear vent window seal? If so, how?

Thanks,

Joe M in WV

    Have you tried swedishtreasures.com or vintageimparts.com or nordicar.com for the seals?

    Good luck.

    Finess or Force? 444-544

    Thanks for the good info on building a new seal face with RTV and some kind of release barrier. Do you normally gop the stuff on and remove excess or carefully build thin layers until the desired effect is achieved?

    Joe;

    I like RTV (room tempreature vulcanizer aka: silicon in a tube) for (repair) sealing...available also in black. Prep with acetone to get best adhesion.

    Cheers

      Wonder if you could put a layer of Saran wrap, Glad wrap, etc around the
      edge of the movable window to keep it from sticking.....

        Wax paper. I fix refrigerator door gaskets all the time this way. Rebuilt the window scraper on the 245 with black silicone as well.

        I installed new rubber seals around the front side vent windows, but they still didn't seal. I used black silicone and laid a bead along the are where they leaked, then greased the vent window frame and then closed and latched the window. Next day--no leaks. If you can't see where it is leaking, you might find it by putting a greenback between the window and the rubber--if it's loose, it will leak, and that is where the silicone needs to be.
