I'm looking to replace the radio in my '94 945. The old one SC-814 (?) works intermittently (tape & CD play fine but I want to listen to Randy & Spiff in the morning). What model radios fit this beast? 810? 811? 815? One caveat, I have an Alpine SC630 CD changer already mounted and working and do not want to make any big changes, I'm talking e-bay here, not Crutchfield.

Do you mean the CHM S630? Also, out of curiosity, where did you mount it?

Anyway, I have no idea what the SC-814 looks like so I'm not sure which facotry radios will fit in your car, though it appears that a new radio (the SC-810 or SC-811, if they fit) is going to cost you $30 or $40 on ebay.

And you’re probably not going to like my suggestion, but here goes:

Sell your CHM S630 on ebay for ~ $125. Buy a new Alpine CD head unit from Crutchfield for $199 (CDA-9825), which includes shipping, kit, harness, and most likely sales tax would not be charged. Or, if you want MP3 capability, look at the CDA 9826, also with free shipping / kit & harness, and most likely no sales tax.

So, your options are to either spend $35 or so for an SC-810 or SC-811 (if it fits), or to spend $75 (and sell your changer for $125), and get a new Alpine head unit that plays CDs and CD-Rs and will look great in the car, or spend $105 and get a new Alpine head unit that also plays MP3s.

By the way, I know where you’re coming from, in my ’99 Honda Accord I have the factory head unit and a trunk-mounted Alpine CD changer (CHA 614 or 620, it’s the one with ai-net capability from ’98). The changer is plenty for me at this time, but if the car’s head unit ever brakes I will be putting in a new Alpine, not shopping for a used factory radio on ebay. In my ’93 Volvo 945T, I have an Alpine, CDA 7839, which is from ’99.

Bob,check with Voluparts here in Atlanta-also Auto Disassembly Volvo-they both may have good used units and will tell you what fits.

Bob, I'm a crutchfield fan - I got a scratch and dent Pioneer that I love and it came with the direct connect wiring harness (worth its weight in gold). I am not an electronic expert so the free phone support I also found invaluable. Neither am I an audiofile, just like a decent sounding stereo with a CD player. The wiring harness and tech support were well worth the extra money I paid to get it from Crutchfields in my view. Whichever way you go, I'll assure you that the most challanging thing you will have to do if you get a non Volvo unit is unplugging the amp! Best of luck with your search and decision.

The Tech Support from Crutchfield is great. I bought a harness and installtion kit form them for my 94 940. Turns out they shipped me the wrong harness, but, while we sorted throught this and figured it out, they were really helpfull. I
never felt they were anything but curtious and engaged.
