I have a beautiful (ivory exterior, tan leather interior, power, AC, sunroof, 100,000 original miles)...1980 264 GLE......Body condition excellent, however, she has the original 6 cylinder engine, and needs new valves, cams, rockers, etc. She does run, but I need to sell her - how do I advertise her since she will need a new engine? Or, does anyone recommend that I replace the engine with another make? I've been quoted that a rebuild of her engine will run $4,500. Truly a beautiful classic car.

cams and rockers don't add up to 4500. it's not a fun job, but it shouldn't be that high. what else is wrong with the motor? find a volvo specialist and get a 2nd opinion. good luck, chuck.

I highly recommend a Volvo 4-cylinder transplant. If your mechanic did not, he's no Volvo mechanic.
