242 Window Scrapers 200 1982

Hello All,

I have in my possession an excellent used set of window scrapers for a 242. I was able to win them on EBay. What I am looking for is help on how to remove the old scrapers and place the good ones in. I think I know how to do it, but would ask the board members for any help they can offer. They are hard to find in good shape and I dont what to screw up the job. Thank you.

Mario

I too have a perfect set of black moulding trim for a '78 242GT sitting in my backyard, only I don't need them. I had bought them new in '94 and have since scrapped the car.
What I do need is a perfect set of trim mouldings for my '89 245 with black trim metal. Trade anyone?

Oh, a pair of 2" paint scrapers is what I use to remove the trim, working it up from rear to front, carefull not to scratch the paint.

    M-
They are held in by little crimped dimples. You have to go in with a screw driver and smack it with a hammer to open them up. It is possible to do so carefully, preserving the track. When loose enough, the old one will slide out. Wear gloves as the hard old rubber can give you a hell of a cut if your hand slips. Use some soap to lube up the new rubber, sliding it in.

Thanks for the info but I have the whole metal unit intact with good stripes. What I am trying to firm up is how to take the entire metal strip off the door.

Oh, that is a lot easier. Un-hook the rear end, straightening the metal enough so you can gently pry up from the rear. Use steady gentle upward prying pressure (I use a large flat screwdriver blade) as the strip releases along its length. The new one can be set with a wooden block pounding it down firmly to seat it.
