AMM compatability 200 1988

Hi,

My nephew's 1988 245 has just had its air mass meter die. I have a 1981 (2.3l) parts car hidden away somewhere: will the AMM from it work on the 1988 car?

Regards

JohnH

And also. I don't think we have heard of a mismatched AMM working in any case.

Just so you will have...

We bought an LH2.4 car with an 007 AMM in it. Didn't notice a performance difference, and had I not spotted the CO adjustment, it would probably be in there yet, unless it might have been picked up in emissions testing. The LH2.4 doesn't do anything with that pin (the CO pot) and the -016 matches the -007 pin function elsewise, so I think that adaptable LH2.4 computer could handle whatever other matching difficulties it encountered.

The reverse, an -016 working well in an LH2.2 car sounds much less plausible.

Oh man, I'll have some fun swapping the two AMMs around then, experimenting. Ever open up a 007? The "CO adjustment? as I recall, is a dumb little copper spring. I bet re-building is sometimes rebending that spring.

Yes, I've done dissection on the -007, in the hope I could fix one the same way I do the -002. Unfortunately that feature disappeared.

The spring is a mechanical coupling between the exterior "knob", the slotted and gasketed aluminum part we put the screwdriver to, and the trimpot on the circuit board. The multi-turn trimpot is a standard electrical part. Though it doesn't have "stops", if one is adjusted directly with a tuning tool or small screwdriver, you can feel the clicking at the end points. But through that spring and exterior access knob, you'd have to be a safecracker to feel the ends.

the 81 does not have an amm. different injection system. good luck, chuck.

Ooops - just shows my ignorance. It was just a parts car someone gave me. I'm a 120/140 kinda guy: all that newfangled fuel injection stuff just confuses me.
