Passenger Door Replacement '92 965 900 1992

Good Morning,

My teenage daughter recently managed to smash the driver's side door on my 965.
She is fine but the repair bill for the door is going to kill my wallet. If I can find a replacement door how difficult will it be to swap out the old door and associated hardware and replace with a used pick and pull door. The car is in great shape inside and the body is straight and paint is fair. I am thinking that by swapping the entire door I can use the money I would have spent to repair the door ($800.00 estimate) to repaint the entire car. Thanks in advance for any advice.

John

    Passenger Door Replacement '92 965 900 1992

    Hi,
I had the same problem with my87-740 last year. A 1200 dollar repair job, or 70 dollare to replace both doors. Those were the choices.

I found 2 doors, same color, perfect working order. Paid about 70 dollars total.

The door frame was tweaked slight, so things are just a tad off, but it looks ok. You cant really tell with out really checking it out. And everything functions as designed.

Im not sorry I did it.

The alignment process can be a little tricky, but not impossible.

I used a couple of padded jack stands to hold the door up while placing it.

    good luck

    lawrence

Fairly simple: two hinges and a wiring bundle. Remove the door panel to disconnect the wiring bundle connectors and feed them through the door outlets. Your only challenge will be removing the hinge bolts, which are on the inside of the car and require that you pull off some of the passenger cabin plastic trim to access them. Door alignment is a bit of a pain for the same reason.
